Fiverr fees for buyers and the Fiverr buyer service fee on every marketing order

Most pages about Fiverr fees are written for sellers. This one is for the business paying for ad creative, social posts or landing page copy: what checkout adds, which fees repeat on extras and tips, and how much of each dollar actually reaches the marketer doing the work.

The short answer

Fiverr charges buyers a service fee of 5.5 percent on every payment, including extras and tips, plus a small order fee on low value payments, quoted in 2026 as $3.50 under $200. The seller then keeps 80 percent of the gig price. So on a $150 marketing order you pay $161.75, the freelancer receives $120, and about a quarter of your spend stays with the platform.

Every line on the bill

What Fiverr charges buyers, and where each fee comes from

Six things decide what a Fiverr order costs a US business. Two are on your checkout screen, one is hidden inside the gig price, and three only show up after something changes. If you are deciding whether to use Fiverr at all, the Fiverr alternative for marketing hires compares the options.

Service fee on every payment

Buyers pay 5.5 percent of each payment at checkout. Extras, custom offers, milestones and tips are separate payments, so each one carries its own fee.

Reported, sources disagree

Small order fee

A flat fee on small payments. The 2026 help center wording is quoted as $3.50 under $200. Older guides give $2 under $50 or $3 under $100. Checkout shows the exact amount before you pay.

Seller commission of 20 percent

You never see it, but the seller keeps 80 percent of the gig price. Sellers price that in, so it sits inside the number you are quoted.

The fee wedge

How much of a Fiverr order reaches the freelancer

You pay the gig price plus 5.5 percent and any small order fee. The seller keeps 80 percent of the gig price. The gap between the two is the platform share of what you spent, worked out on six typical marketing orders.

Ten social post captions gig price $25

You pay $29.88, freelancer gets $20, platform keeps $9.88

33% of your spend stays with the platform

One banner ad set gig price $50

You pay $56.25, freelancer gets $40, platform keeps $16.25

29% of your spend stays with the platform

Blog post, 1,000 words gig price $100

You pay $109, freelancer gets $80, platform keeps $29

27% of your spend stays with the platform

Landing page copy gig price $150

You pay $161.75, freelancer gets $120, platform keeps $41.75

26% of your spend stays with the platform

Ad creative pack gig price $300

You pay $316.50, freelancer gets $240, platform keeps $76.50

24% of your spend stays with the platform

Monthly social package gig price $1,200

You pay $1,266, freelancer gets $960, platform keeps $306

24% of your spend stays with the platform

Under $200 the rows use the $3.50 small order fee quoted from the 2026 help center wording. That flat fee is why the smallest orders lose the biggest share. Above $200 the share settles near 24 percent whatever the price.

The fee nobody agrees on

Fiverr small order fee under three reported rules

Guides published this year quote the small order fee three different ways. Rather than pick one, the table shows your total buyer fee as a percent of the order under each. The 5.5 percent service fee is in every cell.

Read it this way: if you buy a lot of $15 to $40 gigs, the flat fee is the bigger charge, not the percentage, and bundling small tasks into one order above the threshold is the single easiest saving on Fiverr.

Order $2 under $50 $3 under $100 $3.50 under $200
$15 18.8% 25.5% 28.8%
$40 10.5% 13% 14.3%
$90 5.5% 8.8% 9.4%
$150 5.5% 5.5% 7.8%
$199 5.5% 5.5% 7.3%

One job paid three times costs more in fees

Extras and tips are separate payments, so each carries its own service fee, and if the small order fee applies per payment as reported, each small one carries that too. The same $160 of work:

Gig, $100 $9 in fees
Fast delivery extra, $40 $5.70 in fees
Tip, $20 $4.60 in fees
Paid as three payments $19.30
Paid as one $160 order $12.30

The difference

$7

more in fees for the same work, just from how it was paid. Ask the seller for a custom offer that includes the extra, and fold a tip into the order total where they agree.

When the gig becomes a job

Fiverr fees on a monthly social media package

Plenty of US businesses end up buying the same marketing work every month: a social package, a set of blog posts, monthly ad creative. Take a $1,200 monthly package. The fees are small each month and large over a year.

$792

your service fees in a year

$2,880

taken from the seller in a year

$3,672

platform share a year

That is 24 months of a live role on this board. If the work is ongoing, a part time or full time marketer you hire directly keeps all of what you pay them, and a listing that fills in two months costs $298. Pay rates for the role are on our hire a social media manager page.

The honest test

Is Fiverr worth the fees for marketing work?

Four situations where a quarter of the order is a fair price, and a job board cannot do the same job.

A small, defined deliverable

Ten ad headlines, a banner set, a podcast cover. When the brief fits in a paragraph and the output is a file, a fixed price package with a delivery date is hard to beat.

You need it this week

No interviews, no offer letter, no onboarding. For a one off task under deadline, paying a quarter of the order to skip all of that is a fair trade.

Testing a channel before hiring

Buying a month of short form video or a few landing pages tells you whether the channel is worth a person. That is a cheap experiment, not a hiring plan.

No payroll, no contract

The platform handles payment, the dispute process and the paperwork. For a company with no contractor process at all, that admin is worth something.

The case where it is poor value is ongoing work that really is a role. The same arithmetic for the other big freelance marketplace is on Toptal pricing, and a staffing agency version is on Creative Circle fees.

Asked at checkout

Fiverr fees for buyers, the questions businesses ask

Does Fiverr charge buyers a fee?

Yes. Fiverr adds a service fee of 5.5 percent to every payment a buyer makes, including extras, custom offers and tips, and a flat small order fee on low value payments. The 2026 help center wording is quoted as $3.50 on payments under $200. Both fees appear at checkout before you confirm.

How much does Fiverr charge buyers?

A buyer pays the gig price plus 5.5 percent, plus a small order fee on small payments, reported at $3.50 under $200. A $150 order comes to $161.75 at checkout. Separately the seller keeps only 80 percent of the gig price, so about a quarter of what you pay stays with the platform.

What is the Fiverr service fee for buyers?

The Fiverr service fee for buyers is 5.5 percent of the purchase amount, charged on each payment. It applies to the base order and again to any extra, custom offer or tip paid separately. It is shown on the checkout page next to the order total.

What is the Fiverr small order fee?

It is a flat fee added to low value payments on top of the 5.5 percent service fee. The 2026 help center wording is quoted as $3.50 on payments under $200, while older guides give $2 under $50 or $3 under $100. On a $40 order it is the larger of the two fees.

Does Fiverr charge a fee on tips?

Yes. A tip is processed as its own payment, so it carries the 5.5 percent service fee, and as a small payment it can also attract the small order fee. Adding a tip to the original order total, where the seller agrees, avoids paying a second set of fees.

Is the Fiverr service fee refundable?

Fiverr does not state it plainly. When an order is cancelled, the money is credited to your Fiverr balance by default and a refund to your card has to be requested separately. Check the amount on the cancellation confirmation to see whether the service fee was credited back.

How much does Fiverr take from sellers?

Fiverr keeps 20 percent of the gig price from sellers, including tips. Combined with the 5.5 percent buyer fee, roughly 24 cents of each dollar a buyer pays on a larger order stays with Fiverr, and more on small orders where the flat fee applies.

How much does Fiverr Pro cost?

Fiverr Pro for businesses is reported at $129 a month for the Advanced plan, with an Essential tier free in the first year that needs about $1,000 of annual spend to keep, and custom Enterprise pricing. The gig service fees still apply to orders placed under a plan.

Is Fiverr worth it for hiring a marketer?

Fiverr is worth it for small, defined marketing deliverables you need quickly. For ongoing marketing work it gets expensive: a $1,200 monthly package costs $3,672 a year in platform share. If you want a marketer you keep, a job post at $149 a month costs $298 if the role fills in two months.

How to read the figures: only the MarketerJob price is our own rate card. The 5.5 percent buyer fee, the 20 percent seller commission and the cancelled order rule are stated by Fiverr. The small order fee and the Fiverr Pro plan prices are reported by third parties and differ between sources, and order sizes are round examples. Checkout always shows the exact total. Fiverr is a trademark of its owner and is named only for comparison.

Buying the same marketing work every month?

Hire the marketer instead. A Starter listing puts your role in front of people who only look at marketing jobs for $149 a month, with no fee on what you pay them, and you stop it the month the role is filled.
